Description
The TMI-VIP program concludes the extensive technical examinations of the TMI-2 accident sequence and the damage it caused to the reactor. This examination began with the operation 'Quick Look' in 1982, when it was discovered that the upper half of the core was 'missing'; continued throughout the difficult defueling process, and ended with the observation of the removal, and sampling, of the last of the core debris on the bottom of the reactor vessel. This paper provides a brief overview of this examination, the evaluation of the data obtained, and the conclusions reached as a result of the Department of Energy's program to collect, analyze, and disseminate the data concerning the effects of the accident on the reactor core, i.e. DOE's Accident Evaluation Program. 14 refs
