Description
While 'hot-atom chemistry' has for many years been synonymous with 'the chemical effects of nuclear transformations' it is clear that nuclear recoil is but one process which can give rise to a highly energetic atom. The convenient production of atoms with high kinetic energies by nuclear recoil provides opportunities for the chemist to attack problems unapproachable by other means. The authors discuss nuclear recoil experiments in gaseous, and one-component liquid, inorganic systems. (Auth.)
