Preparation and properties of monomolecular films for use as radioactive source mounts

Description
The physical properties of the calcium-stearate monomolecular layer have been examined using an automatic torsion balance. These layers were obtained by adsorption of Ca2+ ions from 10-4 M CaCl2 onto the stearic-acid monomolecular layer. The introduction also briefly reviews previous work on the preparation of monomolecular layers and their use, for some 50 years, for radioactivity measurements. (author)
