Preliminary study on the forgeability and heat treatment response of niobium - containing tool steels materials

Description

The forgeability and microstructure of tool steels materials based on the M-2 composition, where W and V were partially replaced by Nb, were examined. The optimum heat-treating conditions were established. The poor response to heat treatment of some of the alloys studied indicated the need of increasing the C content of the steels when Nb is used as a substitute for W and V. (Author)

Examinam-se a forjabilidade e a estrutura, no estado forjado, de acos ferramenta do tipo M-2 com composicao modificada, onde o niobio foi introduzido em substituicao parcial de tungstenio e vanadio. Determinou-se tambem, as condicoes mais favoraveis de austenitizacao e a resposta ao revenido. A introducao de niobio no lugar do tungstenio exige aumento do teor de carbono, o que explica a deficiente resposta ao tratamento termico de algumas das ligas examinadas. (Autor)
