Description

Pyro-vanadate of cadmium has been obtained at 150 deg C from both CdCO3-V2O5 (2:1) and CdCO3-NH4VO3 (1:1) mixtures, which were heated in a saturated water-vapour atmosphere. In this way, reactivity of V2O5 strongly increased due to the acid sites formed on the surface by means of adsorption process of water molecules. The evolution of the mixtures has been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and thermal analysis (TG) and (DTA). Different mechanisms of reaction in function of the mixture employed are proposed. (author). 15 refs.; 8 figs
