MINOS detectors for neutrino interactions
Creators
Description
The MINOS experiment will explore neutrino oscillations in the range of parameter space suggested by measurements with atmospheric neutrinos. The two magnetized toroidal tracking calorimeters, 1 kton at Fermilab and 5.4 kton in the Soudan Mine, will be constructed out of 2.54 cm iron plates interspersed with scintillator strips made in the extrusion process and will use wavelength shifting and clear fibers read out by multi-anode photomultipliers
