Quality control in radiological lung diagnostics, some examples with a view to practice

Description
Standardization of methods is a basic requirement in radiological lung diagnostics, due to the special features such as volume of the organ, peculiarities of details to be imaged, - entailing special imaging techniques to be used -, and comparability of images over prolonged periods. Imaging conditions must be kept constant and are to be controlled. Quality control hence is to include monitoring of the dose at the imaging system, in order to guarantee the required mean optical density of about D=0.8, as well control of exposure time (less than 20 ms), and of image processing conditions, so as to comply with the ICRP optimization principle. Roentgenaufnahmen der Lunge erfordern wegen der Besonderheiten des Objektumfangs, der darzustellenden Details und der hierzu erforderlichen aufnahmetechnischen Anforderungen, sowie der Vergleichbarkeit der Aufnahmen ueber laengere Zeitraeume, eine Standardisierung der Technik. Sie erfordert konstante Aufnahmebedingungen, die einzuhalten und deshalb auch zu kontrollieren sind. Die Qualitaetskontrolle sollte deshalb die zur Erzielung einer mittleren optischen Dichte von etwa D=0,8 erforderliche Dosis am Bilderzeugersystem erfassen, Belichtungszeiten von unter 20 ms garantieren und Verarbeitungsbedingungen ermoeglichen, die dem Grundsatz der Optimierung nach ICRP entsprechen.
