Description
The corrosion of zirconium in dry oxygen is described from the point of view of phase transformation and physical and chemical processes. A mathematical description of the oxidation process is outlined yielding results that are in harmony with the experimental data if the oxidation process proceeded for a sufficiently long time and/or at higher temperatures. The behaviour of zirconium in different oxidation atmospheres (air, CO2) is similar to that in pure dry oxygen. (author)
