Description
At every stage of the fuel cycle, the materials used are at the heart of nuclear energy safety issues. These materials, which range from steel to polymers, including ceramics, glass, concrete and graphite, are submitted to extreme stresses combining mechanical, thermal and irradiation constraints. The objective of this book is to provide a basis for the research of nuclear materials subjected to irradiation, with the desire to contextualize them in the industrial environment. Therefore, most of the chapters are co-authored and contain a mix of basic and applied research. The reader will find chapters on nuclear reactor materials (structural materials, neutron absorbers, moderators and nuclear fuel) and on materials in waste management (glass, concrete and organic materials). These material chapters are complemented by more general information on defects and their creation, radiolysis and irradiation and characterization tools. Abstract (French)
Les materiaux sont, a toutes les etapes du cycle du combustible, au coeur des problematiques de surete de l'energie nucleaire. Ces materiaux qui vont des aciers aux polymeres en passant par les ceramiques, les verres, les betons et le graphite sont soumis a des sollicitations extremes couplant les contraintes mecaniques et thermiques avec les effets d'irradiation. L'objectif de cet ouvrage est de fournir les connaissances de base sur le comportement des materiaux du nucleaire soumis aux irradiations et de les contextualiser dans l'environnement industriel.La majorite des chapitres sont le fruit d'une collaboration entre la recherche de base et la recherche appliquee. Le lecteur trouvera des informations sur les materiaux des reacteurs nucleaires (les materiaux de structure, les absorbants neutroniques, les moderateurs et le combustible nucleaire) et sur les materiaux dans la gestion des dechets (les verres, les betons et des materiaux organiques). Ces chapitres traitant des materiaux sont completes par des textes plus generaux sur les defauts et leur creation, sur la radiolyse et sur les outils d'irradiation et de caracterisation.
