Description

A review is given of the concept of the dispersion surface introduced by Ewald and its importance in the development of the dynamical theory of diffraction. Applications to a few selected areas of importance in the electron diffraction case, such as extinction contours, defect scattering and many-beam effects, are mentioned. (orig.)
