A radioactive waste conditioning technique using silicate apatites as a confinement matrix
Description
A new containment matrix, made of silicate apatites, is proposed for the long term storage of radioactive wastes such as actinides and/or lanthanides; silicate apatites have attractive advantages such as: high chemical and thermal stability, a very low solubility in water, even decreasing when temperature grows; they are radioactivity-resistant because the irradiation damages are unstable at temperatures higher than 60 C; and they can integrate numerous metal elements in their structure, especially actinides and lanthanides. 5 fig
