Absorption of ultra high energy photons in matter
Description
It is suggested that the effective mass of the uanti u quark pair (as also perhaps the danti d quark pair) coupling to photons undergoes a transition to below the electron-positron pair mass of ≅1 MeV at ultra high energies (100-1000 TeV). This is necessitated by the anomalous absorption properties of the photon seen at such high energies in cosmic rays. (orig.)
