Propagation of epithermal neutrons in the empty mesh of the EDF3 reactor. Application of Zeus IV

Description
The authors report the verification of the Zeus 4 Monte Carlo code by applying it to an actual example of neutron propagation in a large enclosure, the empty mesh of the EDF3 reactor, supplied through the box holes (for the passage of heat transfer fluid ducts). This enclosure is represented by 105 parallelepipedic meshes in which are placed 4 plane and square sources of same cross section as the holes, and emitting inwards in cos θ. Source intensity is determined by flow rate measurements during tests in the air, interpreted by a Zeus-based calculation and channel power measurements during a 387 MW level operation. The presence of ducts is taken into account by applying a global attenuation coefficient to the sources. Calculation and experiment results agree very well in view of geometry complexity
Abstract (French)
On verifie le code de calcul de Monte Carlo, ZEUS 4, en l'appliquant a un exemple reel de propagation de neutrons dans une grande enceinte. Il s'agit de la maille vide du reacteur EDF 3, alimentee par les orifices du caisson (pour le passage des conduits du caloporteur). Cette enceinte est representee par 105 mailles parallelepipediques dans lesquelles on place 4 sources planes et carrees de meme section que les orifices et emettant en cos θ vers l'interieur. L'intensite des sources est determinee par les mesures de flux lors des essais a l'air, interpretes par un calcul Zeus et les mesures de puissance des canaux lors du palier a 387 MW. On tient compte de la presence des tuyaux en appliquant un coefficient d'attenuation global aux sources. Les parois de l'enceinte, a l'exception des deux plans de symetrie, ont l'albedo du beton S + S. L'accord entre ce calcul et l'experience realisee en puissance est tres bon (calcul/experience ≅ 2) compte tenu de la complexite de la geometrie. (auteurs)Files
