Simulant fluid experiments for core-concrete thermal attack

  • 1. Fauske and Associates, Inc

Description

This paper reports on the results of a study examining the relevant features of the core-concrete interaction with simulant materials. Novel aspects of these simulations are the crusting of pool material and the melt-point suppression of the pool during source-driven, prolonged endothermic substrate erosion. The experiments demonstrate that heat transfer in such systems is controlled by these features. Overall erosion is thus governed by a balance between the energy input, initial superheat, upward losses and specific erosion enthalpy
