An in-core neutron detector using magnetically focused electrons for nuclear reactors
Description
A neutron detector utilizing focused conversion electrons or beta particles has been investigated. The detector consists of a long evacuated pipe along which the electrons are focused onto a distant electron detector, which is located in a low neutron-flux region. This arrangement avoids the need for cable conductors carrying signals directly from high flux regions, and thus circumvents problems due to radiation damage and breakdown noise in the cables.
