Description
Mixing of several kinds of fine powder particles using spiral screws or rotational cylinders is a popular industrial method used in laser printers. Understanding the properties of powder flow in the practical unit is an important factor in ensuring quality, stability and efficiency. The powder flow mechanism is very complicated, so suitable visualization techniques are needed to analyze the flow. However, it is almost impossible to observe powder flow in a unit because the powder is almost opaque to visual rays. A visualization technique with transparent neutron radiography has been studied for direct observation of the mixing powder motion. Using toner and carrier powder mixing flow used in a laser printer, we evaluate usefulness of the visualization method. (author)
