Instability of a large-amplitude plasma wave due to inverted trapped particle population
Description
The large-amplitude plasma wave with a trapped-particle distribution monotonically increasing in energy is found to be unstable if the trapped-particle plasma frequency ω t = (4πn t e 2 / m ) ½ is greater than the bounce frequency ω b = ( e Ε 0 κ 0 / m ) ½ .
