Nuclear effects in the production of high-mass Drell-Yan pairs by π-W and π-D interactions

Description
We calculate the cross section π-W → μ+μ- + X taking into account the EMC effect and parton-multiple scattering in the nucleus. In the dσ/dQ2 dχF distributions the nuclear effects are small. For the dσ/dqt distribution, however, the multiple scattering of the incoming parton is important. By comparing the mean of the lepton pair from π-W and π-D interactions we obtain a quark-nucleon cross section σqN as a function of the virtuality Q2 of the quark. We show that the nuclear effects bring perturbative QCD in satisfactory agreement with the data. (orig.)
