Interaction of thermal metastable helium atoms with a surface. Observation of the creation of He+ ions

  • 1. CEA Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay, 91 - Gif-sur-Yvette (France). Service de Physique Atomique

Description

The interaction between helium metastable atoms and a solid surface has been experimentally studied in order to obtain a better understanding of the de-excitation mechanisms. The stage of ionization is indicated by the He+ ions by direct measurement. Thus the validity of one of the mechanisms theoretically discussed by Hagstrum is corroborated
