Description

The roentgen diagnosis of tumors of the spinal cord and its coverings and herniation of intervertebral discs are considered in this chapter, which includes brief references to the findings in certain inflammatory lesions and vascular malformations. Roentgen examination for the detection of these conditions are discussed under four main headings: (1) plain roentgenograms of the spine without the use of contrast media, (2) myelography, or contrast examination, of the spinal canal, (3) computerized tomographic (CT) scanning both with and without contrast medium, and (4) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging
