Current challenges to U.S. nuclear fuel cycle policies: arguments and tactics

Description

The nuclear debate has become virulent in the United States in recent years. Opponents of nuclear power have developed the debate in Congress, in Federal Courts and Federal Agencies which are the principal forums. They use mass media, elaborate strategies, adopt arguments and tactics of a political, economic and technical nature. This paper examines several aspects of their intervention in the nuclear decision-making process of the authorities. (NEA)

Abstract (French)

Le debat nucleaire revet un caractere virulent depuis quelques annees aux Etats-Unis. Les opposants au nucleaire developpent la contestation dans les principaux forums que sont le Congres, les Cours federales et les Agences federales. Ils utilisent les mass-media, elaborent de veritables strategies, adoptent des arguments et des tactiques d'ordre politique, economique et technique. La presente communication examine quelques aspects de leur intervention dans le processus de prise de decision des autorites en matiere nucleaire
