Low dose scanning using 64-detector row computer tomography in pediatric temporal bone

Description
Objective: To study the lowest electric current of 64-detector row CT that could manifest the normal structure of pediatric temporal bone. Methods: 180 cases of pediatric temporal bone examined by Toshiba Aquilion 65-detector row CT were collected. These cases were divided into 3 groups (≥150 mA, 30mA, 20mA) randomly. Other scan parameters were fixed. The reconstruct image quality was evaluated by one professor, one associate professor and one technologist randomly with double-blind method. The image quality scanned with routine dose was used as the standard. The image qualities of all the films with different mA were evaluated respectively according to the various structures of temporal bone. All the results were analyzed by Chi-square test. Results: The lowest dose for pediatric temporal bone scanning with 64-detector row CT was 30mA. Conclusion: Low dose CT scanning obtained by 64- detector row can get images that satisfied clinical demand, and it can be used in clinic. (authors)
