Enrichment measurement of nuclear materials using gamma-ray analysis

  • 1. Korea Advanced Energy Research Institute, Taejon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

235U enrichment has been measured non-destructively by passive gamma ray pulse height analysis. The measurement source is 185.7 keV gamma which is emitted from uranium sample during alpha decay of 235U content in it. Factors influencing the measurement were derived to be sample composition, attenuation effect by container wall, collimation effect, and finally counting efficiency. These factors were independently evaluated, and the results were integrated in order to obtain the optimized total counting condition
