Conversion electron Moessbauer spectrometric study of oxide layers on stainless steels as a pH sensor
Description
Conversion electron Moessbauer spectrometry (CEMS) was applied to analysis of oxide surface layers on stainless steels. Stainless steels of type SUS304 and SUS316 were chemically treated and heated at various temperatures. Magnetic iron species were detected in the oxide layers on stainless steels heated below 600degC and paramagnetic iron species were produced in the inner oxide layers on the samples, heated at higher temperatures than 700degC, or prepared by chemical treatment. The structures of oxide layers as a pH sensor were proposed. (author)
