Method for the extraction of fluorine ions from a dissolved nuclear fuel
Description
A method is presented for the extraction of fluorine ions from a solution of nuclear fuels as uranium dioxide, plutonium and thorium dioxide. This solution is the product of contacting the nuclear fuels with a mixture of nitric and hydrofluoric acids and it is processed with a solid phase silicium dioxide hydrate as silicagel or kieselguhr. In this way, fluorine is bound to silicon to give a solid phase which separates from the solution. (AF)
