Description
Carbon tetrachloride is added to radioactive oil-containing sludges or oil-containing drains, stirred and mixed to extract oil contents into carbon tetrachloride. Then, the mixture is separated into a sludge phase and a liquid phase and then the liquid phase is separated into an aqueous phase and oil-containing carbon tetrachloride. The sludge phase is dried and concentrated to remove water content and carbon tetrachloride and then burnt into ashes. The aqueous phase was dried to concentrate into evaporation residue as evaporated and concentrated solids. The oil-containing carbon tetrachloride phase is heated to recover carbon tetrachloride, while the residue after distillation is burnt into ashes. The ashes and the evaporation concentrates are solidified by means of cement solidification. (T.M.)
