Description

According to the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) Standard, when shearing stress in shear walls exceeds the allowable stress of concrete, shear reinforcement is necessary. The steel used for shear reinforcement are SD30, SD35 and SD40 (specified fy = 300, 350 and 400 MPa respectively). There are few experiments of shear walls using high strength steel, so these allowable stress for temporary are restricted to 300 MPa uniformly. In the case of nuclear power plant buildings, a large amount of shear reinforcement usually need to be placed in shear walls by the provisions of AIJ standard. But some past studies pointed out that the behavior of shear walls under earthquake loading can be estimated adequately by the combination of the yield strength and the contents of rebars. To make clear the load-deformation behavior of shear walls with high strength steel and to establish the rational structural design, a series of structural tests and analytical study were carried out. The results of these tests are described in this paper
