Description

This paper reports on a preliminary radon-geologic province map for the United States that was prepared using indoor radon data from the 25 States surveyed with the assistance of EPA and available geologic data for the United States. This map will be used as a starting point for future assessment of high radon potential areas in the United States. Sixteen radon-geologic provinces have been identified and evaluated. The provinces with the highest radon potential in the country include the Northeast, Appalachian Mountains, northern and central Great Plains, and Colorado Plateau, but all provinces have the potential to generate indoor radon levels ≥4pCi/L
