Description
The electron linear accelerators up to 10 MeV beam energy and 10 kW beam power are widely used for irradiation of food products. Centre for Advanced Technology has developed 10 MeV, 10 kW electron linac facility for irradiation of medical and agricultural products. It is commissioned up to 200 W beam power at 10 MeV beam energy as first stage of commissioning. We have obtained peak beam current of 370 mA from the accelerator. Beam energy is controllable from 5-12 MeV. This machine is suitable for electron mode as well as photon mode of irradiation. Many of the sub-systems are developed in-house. System overview and results of the beam trial operation are discussed in this paper. (author)
