Description
We study the angular and energy distribution of pions leaving the nucleus after anti p annihilation. A microscopical Δh model which includes higher order quasielastic as well as two- and three-body absorption contributions to the optical potential is used to follow the propagation of the pions through the nucleus. We study the pion spectra for 12C and 208Pb at T sub(anti p) = 50 MeV and 175 MeV to illustrate features due to the anti p energy and the size of the nucleus. In particular we study pion absorption and the energy transfer to the nucleus. At T sub(anti p) = 175 MeV and for central collisions of the anti p with the 208Pb nucleus as much as 1300 MeV of energy is transferred to the nucleus. (orig.)
