Ten years after the accident: some informations about Tchernobyl

The ten years anniversary of the Chernobylsk-4 reactor accident gave rise to a flow of informations which are far to be all acceptable. This short paper tries to take into account the true, the false and the uncertain among these informations. This analysis is based on the studies presented in April 1996 at the IAEA-OMS international conference of Vienna and the Heinrich Boell foundation meeting of Kiev. These informations were compiled in a booklet written by the French Society of Nuclear Energy (SFEN) and are summarized in this paper. The different topics approached concern: the origin of the accident, the sarcophagus, the ''savage'' waste disposal sites, the sanitary consequences (victims, diseases, dosimetry, contamination) and the public information in France.
