A new series of double metaborates

Description
A new series of double metaborates of variable composition: TR Alsub(1.67+0.67x)(Bsub(4)Osub(1O))Osub(x), where TR=La, Ce, Pr, Nd and x varies from 0 to 1, is prepared. Crystallization has been carried out in the range of 1100-800 deg using the method of gradual temperature decrease. The refractive index and densities of the crystals synthesized are determined. All the compounds melt incongruently. Their melting temperatures are similar and they somewhat decrease with the decrease of rare earth number. The infrared spectra and results of X-ray phase analysis are presented
