Description

The production of Grand Unified Monopoles in the very early universe as well as their subsequent evolution is summarized. We argue that Grand Unified Theories and Standard Cosmology tend to lead to too many magnetic monopoles in the universe. Finally, we review some of the mechanisms suggested, so far, for solving this primordial monopole problem and stress the existence of non-inflationary models which may lead to a measurable monopole flux.
