Improving efficiency and reliability at Doel by water intake backfit
Description
In April 1991, an extension of the cooling water system with a total capacity of 80 000 m3 was put into service to complement the cooling system of Belgium's Doel-3 and -4 units. The backfit provides higher operational reliability for the two units. Also, by the induced effect on thermal efficiency, the extension resulted in a power gain of some 30 MWe for the two units, which largely self-pays the backfit. (author) 1 fig
