Molten core-concrete interaction under severe accident

  • 1. Shanghai Jiaotong Univ., Shanghai (China). Dept. of Nuclear Science and Engineering

Description

Molten core-concrete interaction (MCCI) can occur once the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) molten through during severe accident, which may lead to late containment failure through erosion or overpressurization. In the paper, the main phenomena associated with MCCI under one severe accident sequence of station blackout (SBO) add steam-driven auxiliary feed water pump failure for 600 MW nuclear power plant were analyzed by using MELCOR code. The concrete ablation rate and hydrogen generation rate were focused, and the analyzed results may give some support for the severe accident management. (authors)
