Strategic and economic study related to the development of marine renewable energies in Brittany and British Cornwall. A report prepared as part of the MERiFiC Project 'Marine Energy in Far Peripheral and Island Communities'

Description

In its first part, this report proposes a global overview of the situation and perspectives of evolution of the short, medium and long terms for marine renewable energies: overview of the different resources for energy production (wind, wave, tide, current, and so on), role of these marine renewable energies to face climate and energy stakes, leadership position for France and Great Britain, and Brittany, Cornwall and Scilly Islands as pilot areas for the development of these energies. It notably outlines the existence of very interesting perspectives on the medium and long terms, but short national and supranational ambitions on the short term. The second part reports an analysis of regional stakes in terms of industrial and economic development, of technology and energy planning, of education and training, of financing for project development, of port facilities, and of collaboration and governance. The third part states strategic recommendations and proposes an action plan for the social-economic development of Brittany and Cornwall. Appendices propose a set of sheets related to the analysis of regional stakes, discussions of benchmarks, a synthesis of workshops, aspects related to market prospective and the assessment of associated industrial and social-economic benefits, and a table presenting 25 identified actions and sheets describing 7 priority actions
