Flux of trace and toxic elements from Mumbai Harbour Bay

Description

Mumbai Harbour Bay is subjected to strong water current and semi-diurnal tides resulting in re-suspension and redistribution of suspended sediments throughout the bay. The present study deals with estimation of total concentration of trace and toxic elements in the Mumbai Harbour Bay from seawater and suspended sediment. The outward fluxes of V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb were estimated from total concentration and total volume of water going out of the bay and found to 4.92 x 103 kg/day, 1.24 x 105 kg/day, 5.09 x 10-1 kg/day, 1.72 x 106 kg/day, 6.19 x 103 kg/day, 9.19 x 103 kg/day, 7.79 x 103 kg/day, 4.74 x 10 kg/day and 1.87 x 103 kg/day respectively.
