Error estimation in measuring dose rate of terrigenous gamma radiation

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Radiatsionnoj Gigieny, Leningrad (USSR)

Description

Comparison of the dose sensitivities of prospecting radiometers during the measurement of γ-radiation of the 226 Ra point source and radiation of saturated layers of the rock with uniform distribution of natural radionuclides is made. The investigations were carried out using the models of saturated layers, which are tanks with potassium chloride, equilibrium uranium and thorium ores. It is shown that the pitch with the rigidity of scintillation radiometers results in considerable errors (up to 90%) when measuring the dose rate of terrigenous γ radiation. The measurement error using radiometers with gas discharge counters does not exceed 12%
