Rapidly solidified Al-Cr-Hf alloys - Structure and mechanical properties

Description

The paper reports on the effect of variable chromium and hafnium content on the response of splat-cooled Al-Cr-Hf alloys to extend soaking treatment at 673 K (0.7 Tm). The highest levels of retained microhardness after soaking for up to 1000 h were obtained for the A-5.0Cr-5.3Hf (wt pct) composition. Except possibility for the longest duration of treatment, this alloy showed levels of retained microhardness significantly higher than for the alternative Al-5.0Cr-1.5Zr (wt pct) composition processed identically and similar to Al-5.0Cr-1.5Zr (wt pct) with quaternary additions of Mn, Nb or W. 20 refs
