Application of 1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy in inherited leukodystrophies

  • 1. Department of Radiology, Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai (China)

Description

Inherited leukodystrophies are a heterogeneous group of diseases caused by enzyme or gene deficiencies, resulting in abnormal formation, turnover or destruction of myelin. As lack of clinical and imaging specificities, diagnosis of leukodystrophies is still a challenge. MRS is the only noninvasive tool to detect metabolites in vivo which can be used in the diagnosis and prognosis of leukodystrophies. Here we reviewed the application of 1H-MRS used in different inherited leukodystrophies. (authors)
