Electron correlations and dielectric screening in a layered electron gas
Creators
Description
A simple pseudoclassical approach is proposed to evaluate the intraplane structural correlations due to Coulomb and exchange effects between degenerate electrons in a layered electron gas model. The in-plane electron structure factor is used to estimate the local field factor accounting for exchange and correlation in the static dielectric function of the model, within the STLS and SSTL approximations. The implications of the results in relation to effective pair potentials between external charges inserted in the system are discussed with reference to ions intercalated in graphite.
