Degree of progress of the laboratory of personal dosimetry and area in the answer to radiological emergencies

  • 1. Laboratorio de Dosimetría Personal y de Área, Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica, Ezeiza (Argentina)

Description

Given the new challenges in radiation safety and protection, the Personal Dosimetry Laboratory and Area began to develop new capabilities to respond to emergencies. For This included personnel in training related to the problem and coordinated with the direction how to intersperse routine tasks with new developments. A program of consensus was agreed upon expansion and improvement of available techniques. In the first stage procedures were prepared to to improve response times in uranium measurements in urine, without losing quality or detection limits, which already responded to the needs of the facilities. Work began interdisciplinarily with the clients of the laboratory, and with the emergency groups, who They presented the needs for the second stage. In the latter it began to develop new techniques, to respond to emergencies in the most efficient way possible, and the Uranium techniques in nasal sores and nasal swabs, with detection limits according to needs raised. The third stage is in development and involves the set-up of the measurement of uranium in human feces, hoping to finish it in early 2018. To respond in the required times, the laboratory entered a system of guards, making available its 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The update and improvement program raises the need for implement building improvements and separation of sectors according to the matrix. Uranium, Emergency, Radiochemical Techniques
