Linear wave conversion
Description
In the general case when the electromagnetic wave has a finite component of the wave vector in the static magnetic field direction, the wave conversion in quasi-homogeneous magnetized warm plasma has been usually studied (1-3). The wave conversion between electromagnetic waves and plasma waves in arbitrary inhomogeneous warm plasma is discussed in Refs. (4,5). Although these works have demonstrated the possibility for wave conversion at the upper or lower hybrid resonance, they are incomplete in that the connection relations for different types of wave phenomena are not considered and the overall conversion efficiency is not evaluated. In this lecture is given a general survey of the entire area of wave conversion in arbitrary inhomogeneous, magnetized plasma (6,7)
