Research possibilities for high energy physics at DESY--Present and future
Description
The high energy physics programme at DESY today is based on the two e+e- storage rings DORIS and PETRA. From 1990 onwards we expect the ep-collider HERA to be in operation, and the main activity will go to that machine. PETRA, which is needed as an injector for HERA, will be closed down for high energy experiments by the end of 1986, while DORIS can provide luminosity as long as there is a strong physics interest - there is no date foreseen for a stop of the elementary physics programme at DORIS. DESY has also a synchrotron radiation laboratory, HASYLAB, which uses DORIS as a light source, mainly for X-rays
