Description
An outline of the basic theoretical issues associated with a well-defined measurement of the effective strong coupling constant using jet ratios is given. The JADE jet algorithm, which is suited for theoretical calculations, can be applied at HERA detectors provided the target remnant jet is reconstructed. In addition to the systematic errors associated with theoretical uncertainties and fragmentation, there are systematics due to parton distribution parametrizations and the experimental measurement of the jet algorithm reference mass.
