Complexes of ruthenium(2) and osmium(2) with dimethyl sulfoxide

Description
Isomeric complexes M(DMSO)4Cl2 (M=Os, Ru) are prepared. The state of the metal oxidations established accor' ding to the data of X-ray electron spectra and diamagnetic properties of the compounds. The structure of the complexes has been studied using the methods of IR and PMR spectroscopy. It is established that the isomers differ by the character of DMSO coordination by the metal. In one isomer all the four ligands of DMSO are coordinated through sulfur atom in equatorial plane of octahedron, and in another three ligands of DMSO are bound through sulfur, one-through oxygen: cis-configuration attributed to osmium isomer, and transconfiguration - to ruthenium one. Molar electric conductivity of the complexes is measured. Stability of the complexes in chloroform is discussed
