Guidelines for the operation and closure of deep geological repositories for the disposal of high level and alpha bearing wastes

The operation and closure of a deep geological repository for the disposal of high level and alpha bearing wastes is a long term project involving many disciplines. The basic purpose of the operation stage of the deep repository is to ensure the safe disposal of the radioactive wastes. During these two stages of operation and closure, it is essential that both workers and the public are safely protected from radiation hazards, and that workers are protected from the hazards of working underground.
