Lessons from Fukushima: Actions Taken at EU and International Level
Description
This paper will critically evaluate the steps taken at the EU and International level in the wake of the Fukushima accident by: (i) in part 1, discussing the key lessons which need to be learned from the Fukushima accident with emphasis on the regulatory lessons, (ii) in part 2, examining EU's response to Fukushima, and in particular looking at the stress tests and the amendments to the nuclear safety directive; (iii) in part 3, looking at the recent steps taken to strengthen the international legal framework regarding nuclear safety; and (iv) finally in part 4, critically evaluate whether the steps taken will enhance nuclear safety and risk fragmenting the international standards.
