Coherent state representation of multiparticle final states and shadow scattering at very high energies
Description
We discuss elastic diffraction scattering from the viewpoint of the coherent state representation of multiple production. The inelastic final states of hadron collisions are assumed to be the statistical mixture of the coherent states whose structure is controlled by the Ginzburg-Landau-type free energy functional. Under the saddle-point approximation in the functional integration, our representation turns out to be the uncorrelated jet model in which the phase of the wave function is determined by its modulus. Thus we present a possible solution for the long standing problem of phase of the wave function in the uncorrelated jet model. The general feature of shadow scattering in this model is discussed. Assuming the Feynman scaling of the single particle spectrum, we show that the overlap function depends only on t (invariant momentum transfer) in sufficiently high energy and finite t region. The necessity of the phase is demonstrated by evaluating the contribution from the modulus of the wave function to the forward slope. (auth.)
