A study of the electron-phonon interaction in thallium using Azbel-Kaner cyclotron resonance

Description

This thesis describes the investigation of the electron-phonon interaction in thallium using Azbel-Kaner cyclotron resonance. A model is described, that explicitly takes into account the mass spread, caused by the non-ellipticity of the Fermi surface and the theory on electron-phonon interaction is reviewed. The expected temperature dependences of the effective masses and the relaxation times are discussed. The author discusses optimization of the physical quantities, i.e. relaxation time and cyclotron frequency and explains the experimental requirements which are necessary for accurate AKCR measurements as a function of temperature. This part of the thesis is concluded with a description of the experimental apparatus used to measure the resonances. The model is tested using a set of uncomplicated experimental data and the results of measurements in thallium are presented and analysed. (Auth.)
